Nasal fractures are the most common facial fractures, accounting for approximately 40% to 50% of all facial bone injuries. Often resulting from physical altercations, falls, sports injuries, and motor vehicle accidents, they present a significant healthcare burden. While these fractures are twice as common in males as in females, they are a universal concern due to the central and protruding anatomical positioning of the nose.
Despite the frequent occurrence of nasal fractures, their management can be complex and varied, often necessitating a multidisciplinary approach. Patients may present with facial trauma to their primary care clinicians, and thus their role is crucial in the initial assessment, management, and appropriate referral of these cases. Given the potential for associated risks and complications, including cosmetic and functional deformities, septal hematoma, and even more severe issues like avascular necrosis of the septal cartilage, accurate and timely intervention is imperative.
