Psoriasis management tips in primary care

Psoriasis is a prevalent, persistent inflammatory skin condition that impacts approximately 1.75% of the UK population.The most prevalent form of psoriasis, known as Psoriasis vulgaris or chronic plaque psoriasis, accounts for roughly 90% of all cases. This variant is characterized by distinct, reddish, and scaly skin plaques. These plaques tend to manifest symmetrically and are most commonly found on the outer surfaces of elbows, knees, and the scalp.

Beyond the visible skin symptoms, psoriasis can lead to further complications. For instance, it may progress to psoriatic arthritis, affecting up to 24% of individuals with psoriasis, leading to joint problems. Additionally, individuals with psoriasis face an elevated risk of developing coexisting health issues such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus
