- Avoid regular soap and shaving cream if they cause irritation.
- Stress can worsen it.
- Provide patient info from trusted sources.
Treating Scalp and Beard- Use Ketoconazole 2% shampoo: Twice a week for 4 weeks initially, then once every 1-2 weeks for maintenance.
- Remove scales before shampooing with oil or keratolytic prep.
- Leave shampoo on for 5 minutes before rinsing.
- Use other medicated shampoos if Ketoconazole isn't suitable.
Dealing with Severe
Itching (Scalp Only)
- Consider short course of topical corticosteroid scalp application (e.g., betamethasone valerate 0.1% or mometasone furoate 0.1%) for severe itching (max 4 weeks).
- Avoid using strong corticosteroids on the beard area.
- Don't use topical corticosteroids long-term.
