Abnormal vaginal discharge is a common complain for seeking help by women in reproductive age group , stands 2nd after dysfunctional uterine bleeding for attendance in gynaecological clinics
Physiological 1-4 ml of fluid/24 hrs transparent , thick or thin and usually odorless - this is normal for women of reproductive age ( also known as physiological leucorrhoea )This changes with menstrual cycle and increase during high oestrogen states as ovulation, luteal phase , puberty and pregnancy
Pathological - vaginitis ( e.g, atrophic vaginitis in post menopausal women )
allergy or contact dermatitis ( e,g latex , sperm , douching , dyes )
chemical irritant ( e.g, soaps , tampons , pads , condoms )
