Dr Nikhil Joshi is a Consultant Cardiologist with extensive experience in general cardiology and a special interest in coronary artery disease (such as angina and heart attacks) as well as valvular heart disease. His particular focus is the prevention, management, and treatment of coronary artery disease. He specializes in the invasive treatment of heart artery blockages (coronary angioplasty) and has particular expertise in the treatment of heart valve diseases with keyhole procedures such as TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve replacement/implantation).
His primary cardiology training was in Edinburgh, where Dr Joshi also undertook a highly successful PhD, followed by training in interventional and general cardiology. He has been a recipient of several prestigious awards including the Queens Anniversary Award for Higher education where his research group was invited to Buckingham Palace. He has awarded the Josephine Lansdell Award for research in heart disease and has been finalist at the American College of Cardiology conference in San Francisco, and at the Thomas J. Linnemeier Spirit of Interventional Cardiology Young Investigator at the Transcatheter Therapies in Washington.
After undertaking the British Cardiology Interventional fellowship in Vancouver Island, Canada, he has been appointed as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at University Hospitals Bristol. This post has allowed Dr. Joshi to undertake high-volume complex coronary intervention (performing more than 300 percutaneous coronary interventions per year) and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (performing more than 100 per year). Dr. Joshi is very active academically as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Bristol and was recently awarded the highly competitive Clinical Academic Research Partnership Award by the Medical Research Council.
